Today is the anniversary of the death of Henry VII, father of Henry VIII and founder of the Tudor Dynasty. He had been sick for a while, and his death wasn’t a surprise. He had gone to his palace in Richmond to spend his final days, with his mother, the indomitable Lady Margaret Beaufort, nursing him as she was able.Â
Also with him was his mother’s spiritual advisor, Bishop Fisher, who helped ensure that his soul was saved and ready to meet his maker. Henry’s mother would live until her grandson, Henry VIII, was securely crowned. Bishop Fisher would live until 1535 when he became a victim of Henry VIII after refusing to take the oath saying that Henry was head of the church, and the marriage to Katherine of Aragon was invalid.
