The Tudor Music Hour

Looking at the 16th century through the lens of song

Hello and welcome to the home of the Tudor Music Hour, a weekly one hour radio program dedicated to studying the history of sixteenth century England through the lens of music. Every week we delve deep into songs, and the stories behind them, using music as a time machine to study the past, and gain an entirely new perspective of one of the most exciting ages of all time, that continues to fascinate us, even five hundred years later.

The Tudor Music Hour is available on Mad Wasp Radio every Sunday morning at 9am in the UK. You can also get abbreviated episodes on my podcast feed.

So who am I, anyway? I'm Heather, and I first fell in love with this music when I sang William Byrd's Ave Verum Corpus as a 10th grade Choral Nerd in Amish Country, Pennsylvania. I've always been interested in history - my first job in high school was as a docent at a Revolutionary War General's home, and I built my first website on Colonial American history in 1998. After university I moved to London, and spent all my free time attending Evensong services at cathedrals throughout the UK. I started podcasting on Tudor England through the Renaissance English History Podcast in 2009.

You can listen to over 100 episodes of the Renaissance English History Podcast through the archive here.  I also do a show with my husband called Watching The Tudors where we break down the drama behind the show The Tudors, talking about what was real, what was dramatic license, and what was just made up - the archive for that is also available here.

I also created the first ever Tudor Summit, an online event for Tudorholics around the world to listen to leading Tudor historians, bloggers, and podcasters. It happens every six months, and it's completely free to register. Learn more at TudorSummit.com. And, just because you can't get enough of the Tudors (right?) I do a daily Tudor Minute with a short snippet of Today in Tudor History. Sign up to get it delivered straight to your inbox at TudorMinute.com.

Finally, I run an online shop filled with Tudor Themed gifts at TudorFair.com - there's some great stuff there, from bathing suits to leggings featuring patterns like the Six Wives Dinner Party scene. Check it out for gifts for the Tudorholic in your life (and maybe that's you!).
